Destructive sounds. A trip down the abyss of music offered here. It might lack a bit of diversity in its composition but the sheer bleakness and depressive feeling clearly makes up for that. My only real complaint is that XV isn’t lengthy enough.
Favorite track: XV.
"I'm sure there's way tougher DSBM out there, hence why I was reluctant to call Undir Skyggðarhaldi as such, but it's been a while since I heard a black metal album with such a crushing sense of dread that evokes suffering in a fairly unique way."
By principal, I should’ve liked Skáphe from the start. Psychedelic black metal claustrophobia is all in my wheelhouse, but it baffled me for months and demanded a closer listen to truly let it stick. It stuck.
